A University of Washington project that uses AI agents to fit AI models onto small, low-power chips won the Madrona Prize at the Allen School's annual Research Showcase. Other honorees included AI agents that write custom software for AI chips,
Not only is AI driving up demand for semiconductors, it is also becoming integrated into their manufacture, corporate leaders say Artificial intelligence is no longer merely the driving force behind global semiconductor demand,
The lack of reliable ways to identify an artificial intelligence agent has caused many companies, especially banks and other financial institutions, to block most
Data attribution methods for Language Models (LMs) are typically evaluated using downstream tasks like fact retrieval. However, existing evaluations vary multiple dataset properties simultaneously, making it impossible to isolate exactly why an attribution algorithm fails. To diagnose these failures, we explore the design space of LLM data attribution, with a primary focus on evaluation. We introduce the Controlled Attribution Benchmark (CATT) for fact tracing, in which we fine-tune LLMs on entirely fictitious knowledge, providing unambiguous ground truth for attribution. This synthetic setup allows us to systematically alter one dataset configuration at a time, such as document redundancy and lexical distractors. With this configurable evaluation, we demonstrate that redundancy and distractors consistently degrade attribution performance. Rather than proposing a new estimator, we examine two design choices that are underexplored: the loss used to compute gradients and how per-token attribution scores are aggregated into a document score. We find that the true causal evidence within a training document is highly localized, but standard methods dilute this evidence into noise by…
In Nanbeige4.3, we take a foundational step toward pushing the boundaries of lightweight agents. Our strategy centers on building a high-capacity teacher agent first, which will subsequently anchor the distillation of advanced agentic capabilities into smaller models.
As an increasing number of AI assistants flood the market, the founder of Ollie, an assistant that respected its users' privacy, says it will be shutting down in a week.
We present a declarative approach to belief-state modeling in trick-taking card games. Starting from a state-of-the-art Skat player, we automatically extract its hand-coded inference rules into a domain-specific language built on the primitive $\neg\mathsf{holds}(P,C)$,…
Large vision-language models (LVLMs) represent images and videos as long visual-token sequences, substantially increasing inference costs. These costs motivate visual-token pruning, whose effectiveness depends on both what signal is used for selection and when that signal…
Language-model answers are often treated as a visible record of the internal decision that produced them. We test this assumption in conflicting-context question answering, where two supplied documents support incompatible answers. A model can process the disagreement and still…
