Novel view synthesis and 3D reconstruction have advanced rapidly with radiance fields and splatting, yet their memory and computational demands limit their use in resource-constrained settings. We introduce Hexels: novel planar hexagonal surface elements with a first-order spatial color field for efficient 3D scene and 2D image representation. Hexels exploit locally planar regions with smoothly varying appearance using fewer, larger primitives. Their hexagonal support provides an area- and boundary-efficient domain, while the local color field captures appearance variation within each primitive. Across 34 scenes, Hexels improve PSNR over memory-matched 2DGS by 4.53-7.38 dB across datasets while requiring lower training VRAM. We further ablate Hexels by showing that per primitive, Hexels outperform 2DGS by upto 4.74 dB while using lower training VRAM and having 2.31 times faster FPS. Even in unconstrained settings, Hexels offers complementary quality-memory trade-offs. For efficient 3D surface reconstruction, Hexels reduce error by 28.9% compared with memory-matched 2DGS across 15 DTU scans. On 6 Tanks and Temples surface scenes, Hexels achieves the highest mean F1 among compared…
Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have made substantial progress in robotic manipulation, but their generalization remains constrained by the diversity and coverage of action-labeled robot demonstrations. Human videos provide much broader behavioral and environmental experience, while learning from them faces a fundamental trade-off between scalable data and explicit action grounding. We introduce ThinkWorld, a VLA learning framework that grounds action reasoning in world dynamics and strengthens it through reinforcement learning with world imagination. ThinkWorld represents each action thought as a Chain-of-Dynamics (CoD), a sequence of discrete motion tokens that captures the intermediate dynamics connecting the current world to a future state and serves as a common action representation across embodiments. We first initialize CoD with action-labeled demonstrations, then predict the future induced by each CoD and reinforce those whose predictions better match the observed outcome. This enables videos without action annotations to provide direct supervision from observed state transitions, allowing human and robot experience to refine the same reasoning space. Experiments in…
Transferring semantically typed tokens between heterogeneous blockchains (e.g. EVM and Cosmos ecosystems) raises two problems: semantic mixing, the loss of a token's domainspecific meaning in transit (e.g., CO2 removals issued under different methodologies), and atomicity despite divergent consensus and timing assumptions. We propose a bridge that addresses both. A deterministic indicator identity derived from cryptographic commitments, mirrored in class registries on both chains and checked at mint time, preventing semantic mixing by construction. For atomicity, we extend hash time-locked contracts (HTLCs) from two-party exchange to single-owner transfer with an automatic callback that burns the source escrow after a destination claim, and a protocol-minimum bounty that makes the fallback burn incentive-compatible even against adversarial senders. We machine-check the protocol's invariants with TLC (supply conservation fails without the rational-monitor assumption and holds with it) and validate a bidirectional prototype on Polygon and Neutron mainnets over Axelar GMP: fully automatic transfers with a median end-to-end latency of 97 s over 50 Polygon to Neutron transfers across…
Discrete visual tokens represent vision in a discrete form analogous to language, offering a native interface for multimodal modeling under a shared next-token prediction objective. However, quantization error is widely assumed to cause unavoidable semantic loss, fundamentally limiting the semantic fidelity of discrete visual tokens and positioning continuous visual representations as an intrinsic upper bound. Using multimodal understanding as a proxy for semantic fidelity, we revisit this assumption and find quantization error unreliable, as discrete representations with substantially larger errors can achieve better understanding. Instead, the effective bit budget of discrete indices emerges as a key determinant of downstream performance. However, existing quantizers eventually saturate as additional codebooks contribute progressively less semantic information. As one approach to alleviating this saturation, we introduce Factorized Vector Quantization, which quantizes complementary, fixed-dimensional views of the visual feature with symmetric parallel codebooks. It continues to improve at larger bit budgets, ultimately matching continuous visual representations in multimodal…
Test-time adaptation helps a deployed model respond to changing inputs, but the same intervention can rescue one batch and damage the next. Updating normalization statistics, for example, can improve corrupted images yet fail when a batch contains mostly one class. Average accuracy hides these failures and cannot tell a model when to use an intervention. Target labels can guide this decision, but they are scarce and some choices are already clear. We introduce PORTAL, a controller that chooses when to deploy an intervention, which inputs to label, and when to stop querying. Each available prediction rule is a candidate, and its predictions are fixed before current feedback arrives. Every acquired label therefore evaluates all candidates on the same input. PORTAL combines these shared comparisons and directs queries toward candidates that can still overtake the current leader. It stops when the remaining labels cannot change the choice or when the possible accuracy gain no longer justifies another query. Our analysis links the required feedback to accuracy gaps and shared mistakes, explaining why some choices need much less evidence. Experiments show that this control turns an…
In recent years, there has been a surge of interest in Cultural NLP, with substantial efforts to create globally inclusive NLP systems. The rapid growth of literature in this field makes it difficult to track trends in methods and data resources. To address this, we analyze…
Matrix-valued optimizer states may contain relational structure that is not captured by treating their entries independently. We study whether relations within matrix-valued optimizer states can be exploited to improve optimization. To this end, we introduce a…
Large language models (LLMs) increasingly rely on external sources when answering questions that require proprietary information or up-to-date live web content, through both traditional single-shot retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and multi-turn agentic RAG. Yet today's web…
We investigate whether adding $t$, the positive magnitude of the squared nuclear four-momentum transfer, enables boosted decision trees (BDTs) to improve invisible-dark-boson selection relative to optimized rectangular cuts at the Electron-Ion Collider. We model coherent…
