Read moreTurning an engineering request into a simulation requires consistent geometry, physics, boundary conditions, and numerical settings. Recent agent-assisted systems automate simulation setup, but successful execution alone does not establish whether the specification preserves the intended problem or correctly handles missing information. We study whether agents can reliably construct complete executable JSON specifications for automated geometry creation, meshing, PDE solving, and result export. Our workflow combines model extraction with deterministic scientific and capability checks, explicit clarification, and validated local patches that preserve unrelated accepted fields. We evaluate specification correctness, execution completion, and numerical verification separately. On 120 template-related requests, the full workflow achieves 98.3% correct first-turn specification and decision outcomes, compared with 92.5% for schema-assisted single shot and 82.5% for model-only: gains of 5.8 and 15.8 percentage points, respectively. It makes no false-ready decisions among the 42 requests requiring clarification or rejection. Component ablations identify contributions from scientific…
Training language-model agents to play long-horizon strategy games is hard because deterministic feedback is sparse and often arrives only at the end of a game. In-game scores can offer dense signals, but they do not reliably predict future outcomes: in 8-68% of position pairs across eight strategy games, the higher-scoring position leads to the worse outcome. We term this phenomenon scoreboard traps. In Freeciv, an open-source turn-based empire-building game where several players manage units, cities, and diplomacy over hundreds of turns, we look into better reward signals for gameplay agents. To facilitate this, we build CivHarness, an open system that saves current game states, branches on different decisions, and replays the game to future turns to provide measurable long-horizon feedback from saved positions. We use CivHarness to train CivTelescope, an LLM Judge that predicts which one of two game positions will yield the better outcome. On scoreboard-trap pairs, CivTelescope is 1.3-2.0 times more accurate than off-the-shelf language models, and it generalizes to new game starts, later turns, and unseen rules. We then train a Freeciv gameplay agent with CivTelescope as a…
Migration benchmarks need projects whose tests pass before migration begins. Yet an old project can behave differently without any change to its code. Reinstalling it today may introduce newer libraries, changing both its initial test results and the failures observed during migration. We investigate this effect in PHP 7.4-to-8.3 migration. Using unchanged project source and saved package records, we compare two dependency policies. Modern selection allows all versions in the snapshot, while release-date selection allows only versions published by the project's release date. With Composer 2 fixed, release-date selection improves the PHP 7.4 pass rate by 7.1 pp across 3,660 releases. A separate comparison against committed locks shows that it also recovers recorded dependency versions more closely than modern selection. The choice matters after migration as well. Among projects that pass on PHP 7.4 under both policies, PHP 8.3 test outcomes differ in 15.0% of eligible pairs. We use a shared test runner and bypass Composer's platform check to isolate test behavior. The resulting candidate migration task sets overlap by only 58.5%. Most differences arise in Laravel projects, where…
Existing sketch generation methods often rely on image guidance and are largely limited to individual objects or simplified scenes, leaving text-guided complex scene sketching underexplored. We present SketchDirector, an agentic framework that mimics the human sketching workflow for automatic multi-concept scene sketching. Given a scene-level text prompt, SketchDirector first employs a large language model~(LLM) to decompose the scene into multiple draft assets, where each is represented by a set of Bézier curves. Then, an agentic reasoning loop iteratively plans and executes their spatial arrangement, guided by self-evolving memory. Finally, a detail refinement module leverages diffusion priors to enhance sketch quality while preserving geometric structure. To support future research and applications in multi-concept scene sketch generation, we further introduce the \textit{MCSketch8K} dataset, comprising editable vector assets, compositional layouts, and object-level manipulation annotations. Extensive experiments show that SketchDirector outperforms state-of-the-art baselines in semantic and compositional quality while effectively preserving overall contour organization during…
Burst super-resolution (BSR) achieves higher reconstruction fidelity than single-image super-resolution (SISR) by aggregating sub-pixel information from multiple frames. However, it requires a burst of frames captured under near-static conditions, and such frames are unavailable for single photographs or archival images. We propose Pseudo-Burst Super-Resolution (PBSR), which brings BSR-style reconstruction to the single-image input setting by synthesizing pseudo-burst frames via zero-shot novel view synthesis (NVS). PBSR first generates pseudo-burst frames with realistic parallax using a viewpoint sampling strategy calibrated to the pixel-shift distribution of real burst datasets. The frames are then processed by a BSR backbone equipped with a geometry-aware alignment module that reuses the NVS camera parameters and estimated depth. While the NVS stage is zero-shot, the backbone is fine-tuned with an artifact-aware adaptation so that it can exploit the synthesized frames despite their generative artifacts. Experiments on the BurstSR dataset show that PBSR consistently improves in PSNR, SSIM, and LPIPS over the single-frame baseline with the same reconstruction backbone.
